Intern - SI/PI Methodology Development

Engineering Hillsboro, Oregon

Description

Job Description Overview:

Our Advanced Electromagnetic Technical Division specializes in innovative electromagnetic-related signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) system design. We are seeking a motivated and talented intern to assist in the research, development, and implementation of new, quick, and accurate computational electromagnetics (CEM) methodologies for the detailed analysis and characterization of specific structures within complex PCB designs. This role will focus on advancing numerical simulation techniques to enhance analysis speed and precision. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain hands-on experience in advanced CEM, contribute to cutting-edge methodologies for performance and efficiency enhancement, and develop expertise in high-speed PCB design analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform background research on current advanced CEM methods and present findings to the team.
  • Research, develop, and optimize new methodologies for quick and accurate SI/PI analysis of particular PCB structures, focusing on efficiency, predictive power, and detailed modeling.
  • Conduct advanced computational electromagnetics simulations to validate and refine developed methodologies for signal integrity and power integrity on complex PCB designs, with a focus on characterizing specific structures.
  • Analyze simulation results to thoroughly characterize the behavior of specific PCB structures and validate novel analysis techniques.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, transmission line theory, and computational electromagnetics principles (e.g., FDTD, FEM, MoM, PEEC).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation, data processing, and post-processing of simulation results, essential for methodology development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with 3D/2.5D electromagnetic simulation software (e.g., HFSS, SIwave, Sigrity, ADS), with an emphasis on their application to PCB-level SI/PI analysis and model extraction for specific structures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

 Required Qualifications:

Years of Education

  • Current enrollment in an MS or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, or a related field with coursework of electromagnetics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with coursework or research projects emphasizing electromagnetics, computational methods, or high-speed digital design.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin communication is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting and using office equipment such as a computer.
  • Flexibility in working hours to collaborate with teams in Taiwan.
